About the Programme/Event

 

With increasing awareness on the impact traditional animal farming has on the environment, interest in alternative protein, such as ‘meatless meat’, has risen proportionally. Commonly derived from plants, insects, fungi or cell cultures, alternative protein may offer a more reliable and sustainable source of protein. Learn more about alternative protein and cultivated meat technologies. Find out how it can potentially meet food challenges and whether they are safe to consume.

 

Speaker’s Biodata

 

Dr Mark Richards is a stem cell biologist by training but made a mid-career switch to the aquaculture domain out of personal interest. Dr Richards currently works on mud crab and white shrimp indoor precision and super-intensive farming systems. He also conducts research projects on aquatic species cultivated meat solutions with local start-up Umami Meats Pte Ltd.

 

This programme is part of the NYP Sustainability Series for seniors organised by Nanyang Polytechnic. 

 

About the Series

 

The Time of Your Life (TOYL) programme series features informative talks, creative workshops, book clubs and learning communities for those aged 50 and above. Seniors can pursue their interests and stay informed on a wide range of topics such as health, sustainability, career, technology and the arts.
