In this course, participants will learn about spoken word poetry as an art genre and immerse in the history, appreciation, styles and the ways in which poetry has existed throughout the world as art form, therapy, sport and call to action, amongst many other things. Participants will draw inspiration from a wide variety of spoken word poets from around the world and learn the fundamentals of writing poetry for the stage and performing it. The course will culminate in participants creating, refining and performing their own spoken word pieces.
