SAC Seniors Enjoy Managing Your Money Better Course by NSA

For 23 seniors from NTUC Health SilverACE (Redhill) Senior Activity Centre, they got to experience a day with added fun and excitement from their usual routine activities. They attended a 3-hour financial literacy course – Managing Your Money Better under the National Silver Academy (NSA), which offers seniors aged 50 years and above a wide range of learning opportunities at subsidised rates, with most courses being SkillsFuture Credit eligible too.
The NSA financial literacy course was brought to the seniors at the senior activity centre to help them better plan their finances, and this was made possible through the sponsorship from OCBC Bank for the out-of-pocket course fees.
Madam Nor, in her early 60s, was very thankful for these programmes supporting seniors like herself, and shared that before the course, she didn’t know that there were so many ways to better manage her daily expenses and now she can plan more wisely and save more.
After attending the NSA course, Mr Lingam, in his late 70s, had a better understanding on the 3M's – MediShield, MediSave and Medifund. He mentioned that the knowledge learnt was beneficial for seniors and looks forward to attending more NSA courses in the near future.
Through the course, seniors learnt the basics of financial planning through various interactive activities. For example, they were given tips on where and when to buy ingredients from the various supermarkets in Singapore, which offer senior citizen discounts on dedicated days as well as how to shop wisely by purchasing house brands and looking out for promotional items.
Senior-related schemes like Central Provision Fund (CPF) and Silver Support Scheme were covered and seniors were also educated on how to identify and avoid scams, which could lead to financial losses.
Participating in courses like these not only aids seniors in the financial planning process, but learning new knowledge and skills can help them to keep their minds engaged and to stay connected with society.
