Facilitate Meaningful Interaction with Persons with Dementia
The course will enable participants to gain a basic understanding of the challenges faced by persons with dementia, and how to engage them meaningfully with effective communication strategies. By the end of the course, participants will be able to recognise signs and symptoms of dementia and assist those in distress as well as gain the knowledge to employ effective communication strategies to engage with them meaningfully.

Joanne Loy is a DACE and ACTA certified dementia care trainer. She is also a certified Dementia Care Mapping (Basic User) by University of Bradford and Spark of Life certified facilitator. Joanne has conducted training sessions for family and professional caregivers. She is passionate about dementia care and has actively involved in public education on dementia awareness, including raising dementia awareness among seniors at senior activity centres.Yang Chek Binte Salikin
Yang Chek is a registered Senior Nurse Clinician with more than 40 years of nursing experience at public hospitals. She has a Master of Nursing in Mental Health from National Unviersity of Singapore. Besides clinical experiences, Yang Chek has developed training programmes and conduct training for nurses and caregivers on mental health and psycho education. Andy Teng Wei Huang is the Manager for Academy, the training arm for Dementia Singapore. Prior to joining the Academy team, Andy was a Social Worker in Dementia Singapore as a Team Lead for Dementia Helpline. The Helpline serves as the first line of defence and support for caregivers or members of the public who need vital information. The Helpline provides caregiver support, service linkages, and over-the-phone counselling. Additionally, he also supports the caregivers through casework and counselling.Reviews on Course
