Ageing:
A Global Phenomenon
Reinventing Retirement Asia: Employment and Active Engagement Beyond 50 Conference 2009
AARP and the Council for Third Age (C3A) will be organising and cohosting the 'Reinventing Retirement Asia: Employment and Active Engagement Beyond 50' Conference on 8 - 9 January 2009 in Singapore. This conference aims to drive greater local employer awareness of issues and best practices in preparing for an ageing workforce. 'Reinventing Retirement Asia' is part of AARP's series of symposia examining how different countries confront and address retirement and the needs and talents of older people.
With growing concerns about an ageing global community, this two-day conference embraces a host of challenging issues and aims to provide a global platform for the exchange of ideas and innovations, answers and solutions by highlighting best practices and global trends in well-being and life satisfaction for elderly communities throughout the world.
As we move forward this century, it is essential to understand that ageing issues affect all of us. Data compiled by the United Nation’s Population Division indicates that the number of people aged 60 and over in the world is expected to triple by 2050. Figures in Asia alone indicate that certain countries have an increased rate of ageing. As one of the fastest ageing populations in Asia, Singapore faces the challenge of developing public policies to accommodate its changing age structure. Today, one in 12 Singaporeans is aged 65 or above. By 2030, this ratio will become one in five. An ageing population brings both challenges and opportunities, providing a window of opportunity to put in place policies and programmes to meet the emerging needs of an ageing population.
Guest of Honour and Keynote Speaker:
Mr. Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister of Singapore
The theme on employment ties in well with C3A’s vision of promoting vocational wellness as part of the Six Dimensions of Wellness (Physical, Social, Emotional, Intellectual, Spiritual and Vocational Wellness) as well as C3A’s objective of changing mindsets about retirement. We encourage seniors to work for as long as they can in order to stay mentally and physically active, and be financially independent.
Who Should Attend
- Business leaders, human resource professionals, policy makers, academia, social sector practitioners and educators from Asia, United States and Europe
