Discover Singapore

In the vast expanse of Southeast Asia, Singapore stands at only 42 kilometres wide with a total population of around 4.6 million, yet this City-State is one of the world’s most densely populated countries, comprising a multicultural mix of citizens and permanent residents; Chinese, Indians, Malays and others. Having become more diversified in its population over the centuries, Malay is the Republic’s national language, with English being the official language of administration. Now as a recognised regional MICE hub, Singapore offers an islandwide support structure to satisfy visiting business delegates during their stay; dining, culture and retail opportunites beyond compare, enhance your Singapore experience from morning till night.

Experience a Culinary Feast

International cuisine and unsurpassed service standards are evident whether you choose to dine in one of the island’s more exclusive venues or to simply opt for a more casual open air culinary experience with business colleagues. From revered restaurants to the more traditional and vibrant experience of Singapore’s largest remaining Victorian, cast-iron structure, Lau Pa Sat hawker centre, in the heart of Singapore’s business district. Complimented by a host of trendy café’s and bars around the island, there is something to suit even the most discerning palate.

A Cultural Hub

Historical venues abound for those with an interest in the arts or local heritage. World-class musical and theatrical performances can be found at the Esplanade—Theatres on the Bay. Visit the Asian Civilisation Museum where exclusive dining options surround the rich stories of Singapore’s history. The President’s home, Istana House, is one of a number of unique and classic architectural landmarks and memorials around the island worth viewing. Old Parliament House is another colonial mansion which has been re-launched as the Arts House; a contemporay venue for visual and performing arts. The restored chapel, CHIJMES (pronounced “chimes”), is home to an array of dining and retail offerings in a stunning garden setting.

Retail & Relaxation

From the peace and tranquility of Singapore’s island resort, Sentosa, to the lively retail adventure of Orchard road, delegates can journey from sanctuary to shopping haven within minutes.

A Seasoned City

While Singapore is known for its glorious weather, it also has two distinct monsoon seasons: the North Eastern season is December – March and the South Western season is June – September (November and December being the wettest months). Temperatures vary throughout the year with daytime averages of 30°C and short bursts of rain when you least expect them. You’ll experience a tropical climate with year round humidity (usually above 75%).

An Age Old Issue

With its diverse and growing population, Singapore is home to one of the world's fastest-ageing populations. Currently one in 12 Singaporeans are over 65 years. By the year 2030, this ratio will become one in five. The Singapore Government is striving to build policies to create an elderly-friendly society where seniors can look forward to growing old with a sense of optimism. Rather than rely on state welfare, the Government encourages seniors to work and embrace current technological advancements in their daily lives. From 2012, laws will be in place to ensure employers rehire older workers. With the concept of ‘Retirement’ becoming a thing of the past, many Singapore seniors will be looking for opportunities to feel a sense of belonging in the workplace. To moderate the impact of the aging labour force on productivity and growth, re-training and raising the education profile of older workers must play a key role in their future.
