2010 AARP International Innovative Employer Award

*Results will be out in November 2010.

*Recently Announced* - Award winners to be recognised in a special report in the global edition of the Financial Times.

The AARP International Innovative Employer Award aims to recognise model employers based outside the United States who have implemented innovative workforce or human resources practices and policies to attract and retain workers age 50 and older. By recognising employers around the world that have demonstrated innovative efforts to address issues relevant to mature workers, AARP encourages all employers to create a mutually beneficial work environment that values the potential of these workers and the workforce as a whole.

Who Can Apply
All employers headquartered in countries outside the United States, as well as foreign subsidiaries/ operations of United States based companies, are eligible to apply, including private sector employers, nonprofits, charities or foundations, as well as government employers. All applications from Singapore must be submitted through the Council for Third Age.

Evaluation Criteria
As policies that are beneficial for mature workers are often beneficial for all workers, employers are not required to have programmes dedicated exclusively to mature workers. However, employers who can demonstrate that their programmes are particularly valued by mature workers may receive additional credit through the evaluation process.

Employer applicants for the award will be asked to inform us of their best practices in the following areas:

  • Lifelong Learning and Training
  • Flexible Work Arrangements
  • Health Promotion and Protection
  • Diversity Promotion
  • Recruitment Practices
  • Employee Testimonies

Benefits to Applying
Award-winning employers will be publicised by AARP to their 40 million members, international stakeholders and international media through a wide variety of channels, including possible coverage in AARP The Magazine. Receiving this honourary award can also be effectively leveraged for a company’s public relations, corporate social responsibility and human resources promotions. Award-winning companies will also have opportunities to share their best practices at high-level international forums sponsored by AARP and international organisations collaborating with AARP on this award.

Winners will be invited to the Award Presentation Ceremony at the Employment Week Forum in Brussels, Belgium on 24 November 2010 with complimentary Forum passes. Three winners will be invited to speak on a panel session organised by AARP during the Forum.

Winners can also expect opportunities for networking with high level European officials from the European Commission, EU member state governments, NGOs and businesses, as well as exchange best employment practices with other award winners and Forum participants. In addition, a media roundtable for award winners will be organised with Employment Week media partners and media representatives.
