2008 AARP International Innovative Employer Awards
With over 39 million members, AARP is the leading nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organisation for people aged 50 and over in the United States. It aims to help them have independence, choice and control in ways that are beneficial and affordable to them and the society as a whole.
AARP is organising the AARP International Innovative Employer Awards and is collaborating with several international organisations and experts on age and employment issues. These organisations will provide local/regional expertise, assist in identifying and contacting potential applicants, and help promote the award and best practices collected through the award. Council for Third Age (C3A) has been invited to be the strategic collaborator to help promote this award and best practices in Singapore.
C3A is also collaborating with employers’ federation, unions and government organisations to promote the award to employers locally.
The AARP International Innovative Employer Awards is intended to recognise employers who have demonstrated innovative workforce or human resource practices that address issues relevant to the workforce aged 50 and above. At a time when the percentage of workers aged 25 to 44 is declining, older adults formed a more important component of the global workforce than ever before – a fact that select employers are recognising and implementing policies to address. By recognising employers around the world that have demonstrated innovative efforts to address issues relevant to older workers, AARP encourages all employers to create a mutually beneficial work environment that values the potential of these workers and the workforce as a whole.
Employer applicants for the award will be asked to provide information on their human resource practices in the following areas:
- Recruitment;
- Training and Lifelong Learning;
- Career Development;
- Flexible Work Arrangements;
- Health Protection and Promotion; and
- Diversity Promotion.
